Firstly, you’re going to need to ensure that your properly drain the system. You’ll of course need to cut the main supply to the pipes until you’re finished. After you’ve done so, you’ll need to head to the lowest point of your home and turn a tap on in order to drain any water left in your pipes.

Second on the list is cutting your pipe and installing your new water inlet filter. After you’ve selected the perfect spot for your filter, you’ll need to carefully use the provided template in order to place a marking on your pipe to ensure that everything fits perfectly. Keep in mind that your filter will need replacing in due time to select a spot that works well for ease of access. You’ll then need to remove two sections of pipe in order to allow your filter to fit perfectly.

Before you’ve completely removed the cut section of your pipe, you’ll want to make sure you have bucket or container to catch any water that was still in the line. The third step on the list is simply placing a compression nut on the one side of the pipe and then sliding the ferrule in place. And of course, you’ll need to repeat the process on the other side of the pipe as well. Then you’ll need to thread and install according to the manufacturer’s instructions, a brass fitting.

And, don’t forget to use some Teflon tape in order to create a proper seal. Remember, don’t tighten your fittings to much because you will run into trouble later on with your pipes!

Fourth on our list is positioning the filter onto the water line while you hand tighten the compression nuts. Remember to keep your newly placed filter in an upright position while you begin to tighten the fittings while using a couple of wrenches. Now, you’ll need to position the filter in such a way that the flow comes from the inlet and exits through the outlet because this will create problems in the filtering process.

The fifth step is making sure the filter has been set properly. Your filter kit would have a special handle which is used to turn the inlet valve to various positions as desired. Ensure that you turn it to the off position as you proceed to turn the water back on while checking the system for leaks. If there are no leaks, turn the valve to the filter position and allow the filter to fill up and begin filtering.

And our last step is simply reminding you that your filter cartridge will need replacing according to the instructions. If you’ve installed this system for an entire house, don’t forget to turn the valve to the off position before you proceed to change the contents. Empty the water from the filter and clean out the housing and all parts involved.
